Uses
1. It is a standard fuel for measuring the octane number (shock resistance) of gasoline, and is mainly used as an additive for gasoline and aviation gasoline, as well as a non-polar inert solvent in organic synthesis
2. 2,2,4-Trimethylpentane is a reference material for testing the anti-knock performance of gasoline. The octane numbers of 2,2,4-Trimethylpentane and heptane are specified as 100 and 0, respectively. If the anti-knock performance of a gasoline sample in a single-cylinder engine is equivalent to a composition of a 2,2,4-Trimethylpentane-heptane mixture under the specified test conditions, the octane number of the sample is equal to the volume percentage of isoisothane in the standard fuel. Gasoline with good anti-knock performance has a high octane number.
3. Organic synthesis. Solvent. Determination of the octane number of fuel oil. Standards for gas chromatography analysis. Diluent.
